Field Hockey Duo Collect MASCAC Weekly Accolades
Jones named Rookie of the Week; Morse selected Defensive Player of the Week
Fitchburg, Mass. – Fitchburg State freshman Samantha Jones (Uxbridge, MA) and senior Jenna Morse (Leominster, MA) were recently selected Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Field Hockey Rookie of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week respectively as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
Jones registered her second weekly honor on the season after totaling five points on two goals and one assist in a 2-0 week for the Falcons. Samantha tallied one score with the game winner in a 3-0 triumph over the Lancers on Tuesday before adding one score and one helper in a 4-0 victory against the Vikings of Salem State on Saturday.
Morse also notched her second weekly accolade of the 2024 campaign after registering six saves with a 0.00 goals against average and a save percentage of 1.000 in a 2-0 week for the Green and Gold. Jenna stopped all five shots she faced in 3-0 victory over the Lancers of Worcester State on Tuesday before making one save in a 4-0 triumph against the Vikings of Salem State on Saturday.
The Fitchburg State field hockey team (4-6, 4-0 MASCAC) returns to action on Wednesday as they travel to Nichols College to take on Bison in non-conference action, starting at 7:00PM.
