Eight Falcons Garner MASCAC Honors
Yates selected MASCAC Offensive Player of the Year; Jones named MASCAC Co-Rookie of the Year
Fitchburg, Mass. – Eight members of the Fitchburg State Field Hockey team were honored by the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) as the conference announced the major award winners as well as the All-Conference team on Wednesday afternoon.
Junior Sophia Yates (Woodstock, VT) led all award winners after being named MASCAC Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Year as well as being named to the All-Conference First Team, while freshman Samantha Jones (Uxbridge, MA) was selected MASCAC Co-Rookie of the Year in addition to being named to All-Conference Second Team.
Sophia led the MASCAC in both goals with 16 and points at 34, while Samantha finished in the conference in goals at nine and seventh in points with 24.
Fitchburg State Field Hockey head coach Kayla Quinn was named MASCAC Field Hockey BSN Sports Coach of the Year after guiding the Falcons to the conference regular season title to round out the major award winners for the Falcons.
Joining Yates on the MASCAC All-Conference First team for the Green and Gold were senior Jenna Morse (Leominster, MA), classmate Alexis Raymond (Tewksbury, MA) and fellow senior Riley O'Brien (Townsend, MA).
In addition to Jones, senior Jessica Morse (Leominster, MA) and classmate Autumn Tibbetts (Lunenburg, MA) were also named to the MASCAC All-Conference Second Team.
The Fitchburg State field hockey team recently concluded its 2024 campaign with an overall record of 10-9 and an 8-2 mark within conference play, enroute to capturing the regular season conference crown.
