Field Hockey Soars Past Vikings In MASCAC Action
Yates notches hat trick for Green and Gold
Fitchburg, MA. – The Fitchburg State field hockey team earned a 5-1 victory over the Vikings of Salem State this afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action from Elliot Field.

How It Happened
Salem State opened the scoring 1:14 into the opening frame as freshman Grace Morey (Danvers, MA) deposited a shot into the left side of the cage for her fourth goal on the season for the 1-0 edge. Fitchburg State answered in the fifth minute of play when junior Sophia Yates (Woodstock, VT) settled a feed from senior Alexis Raymond (Tewksbury, MA) and fired a shot into the back of the cage for her team-leading 13th score of the 2024 campaign to knot the score at 1-1.
The Falcons grabbed the lead 1:54 later with Raymond putting a shot inside the far post for her fourth goal on the year off an assist from classmate Autumn Tibbetts (Lunenburg, MA) to make the score 2-1. The Green and Gold pushed the lead to 3-1 at the 10:32 mark as Yates connected on her second tally of the contest.
Following the intermission, Fitchburg State secured the victory in the 50th minute of action (4-1) when Tibbetts redirected a pass off the stick of senior Riley O'Brien (Townsend, MA) into the left side of the cage for her eighth tally on the season.
The Green and Gold capped the scoring with just under two minutes remaining in the contest as Yates completed the hat trick with her third goal on the day, resulting in the 5-1 final.
