Kassel Selected NFHCA DIII All-American

FITCHBURG, Mass. – Freshman forward Lena Kassel (Stuttgart, Germany) was recently named to the 2022 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III All-American Third Team as announced by the NFHCA on Tuesday afternoon.

Kassel adds to her 2022 post-season accolades after rewriting the Falcons record books this past season. Lena concluded here rookie campaign, leading the team in points (67) and goals (31), setting the single season program record in both stats as well as adding five helpers and six game winners, while also setting a new single game program record for goals in a contest with seven in an 8-0 victory over UMass Dartmouth on October 22, 2022.

For her efforts, Kassel was also selected the 2022 Little East Conference (LEC) Rookie of the Year as well being named to the LEC All-Conference First Team, while also earning a spot on the 2022 NFHCA NCAA DIII Region II First Team.

This year, 48 Division III student-athletes were recognized by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) as All-Americans, sponsored by The LineUP for their performances throughout the 2022 season.

The Fitchburg State field hockey team concluded its 2022 campaign with an overall record of 10-8 and an 8-4 mark in the LEC, en-route to securing the sixth seed in the 2022 LEC Field Hockey Post-Season Tournament.
