NEW LONDON, NH: The Fitchburg State women's lacrosse team suffered their third loss in a row at the hands of Colby-Sawyer College in nonconference action this afternoon by a score of 16-11.

THE BASICS:

- Date: 3/5/25

- Score: Colby-Sawyer 16, Fitchburg State 11

- Records: Colby-Sawyer (2-0), Fitchburg (0-3)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  The first quarter saw the Chargers put up an impressive 12 goals behind Sophia Kuhlthau, Andrea Smith, and Rose Finlayson, who all had three goals apiece. Others who scored in the first for Colby-Sawyer were Lauren Vignola, who had two, and Cecilia Ponzini. The Falcons did find the back of the net once in the opening quarter, on an Autumn Tibbetts (Lunenburg, MA) assisted goal to Samantha Azzari (Haverhill, MA).

- The scoring quieted down significantly for Colby-Sawyer in the second, as they only scored three goals. Smith found the back of the net another two times, putting her up to five goals. Finlayson would net the other for the Chargers. Alexis Raymond (Tewksbury, MA) would score two goals for the Falcons and adding an assist on their last goal of the half from Delaney Ponder (E. Bridgewater, MA), making it a 15-4 game at the break.

- The second half was all the Falcons as they rallied back to within five at the close of the fourth. Jennine Preston (Plymouth, MA), Breanna White (Peabody, MA), and Jessica St. George (Dracut, MA) all scored in the third period, cutting the Charger lead to nine. Heather Hanson scored the only goal for Colby-Sawyer in the second half in the third to bring the score to 16-7.

- The fourth and final quarter was another four Falcon goals that were unanswered. Kiley McFadden (Tewksbury, MA) put in two of the four, with Azzari and Tibbetts netting the others. The Falcons rally fell short as the first quarter built up too much of a deficit for them to overcome.
