Women's Lacrosse Falls to UMass Boston in Home Opener

FITCHBURG, MA: In a challenging nonconference encounter, the Fitchburg State University Falcons women's lacrosse team faced a tough defeat on Elliot Field with a 7-11 loss against the Beacons of UMass Boston.

FITCHBURG, MA: In a challenging nonconference encounter, the Fitchburg State University Falcons women's lacrosse team faced a tough defeat on Elliot Field with a 7-11 loss against the Beacons of UMass Boston.

Records: UMass Boston (1-0), Fitchburg (0-2)

The match commenced with promise as the Falcons took an early lead, highlighted by goals from Samantha Azzari (Haverhill, MA) and Autumn Tibbetts (Lunenburg, MA), boosting the team to a 2-1 edge in the first period. Despite a balanced 4-4 halftime score, UMass Boston pulled ahead in the later stages, thanks to strategic plays and deciding goals from Hannah Rich, Rae Alexander, and Ava Duffy during the last period. Rich, Alexander, and Duffy each netted three goals in the contest.

Despite the loss, the Falcons showcased strong performances, with additional scoring contributions from Jessica St. George (Dracut, MA) and Delaney Ponder (E. Bridgewater, MA). They also scored key goals alongside Tibbetts, who had three.

Dakin Kovatch (White River Junction, VT) suffered the loss (L, 0-2) in net for the Falcons. Elizabeth Crowley got the win (W, 1-0) for the Beacons after saving seven shots. (W, 1-0)

Fitchburg State's next challenge will take them to New London, NH, where they will face Colby-Sawyer on March 5th at 3:00 PM.
