Sixth Seeded Falcons Fall To Third Seeded Rams In Quarterfinal Round

Framingham, Mass. - The sixth seeded Fitchburg State women's lacrosse team dropped a 21-3 decision to the third seeded Rams of Framingham State quarterfinal round action of the 2023 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Post-Season tournament from the Maple Street Field.

How It Happened

Framingham State opened the contest with goals from sophomore Leah Green (Chelmsford, Mass.) and junior Regan Fein (North Attleboro, Mass.) before Fitchburg State answered with a tally by senior Eva Kozikowski (Portsmouth, N.H.) to make the score 2-1. The Rams closed out the first quarter on a 9-0 run, keyed by three scored from Green to give the host an 11-1 edge.

In the second period of play, the Rams extended the margin to 17-1 with Green, Fein, sophomore Molly Lanier (Tyngsboro, Mass.), junior Maddy Skiff (Granby, Conn.), classmate Hannah Guerin (Cumberland, R.I.), freshman Kelley DeBellis (New Fairfield, Conn.) and sophomore Hailey Baker (Peabody, Mass.) registering markers.

Following the intermission, Framingham State pushed the advantage to 19-1 with newcomer Alessia Lye (Hamden, Conn.) finding the back of net, but the Falcons responded as sophomore Abaigeal Gilman (Clinton, Mass.) connected on er 14th goal on the season off a feed from Kozikowski to trim the deficit to 19-2.

In the final period of play, the two teams traded goals to start the stanza with DeBellis netting the goal for the host, while freshman Jessica St. George (Dracut, Mass.) collected the tally for Fitchburg State. Framingham State secured the victory however when junior Elizabeth Dollard (Guilderland, N.Y.) found the back of the net, resulting in the 21-3 final.
