Women's Lacrosse Downed by Mass Maritime

FITCHBURG, MA: The Fitchburg State women's lacrosse team suffered its second conference loss this evening to the Buccaneers of Mass Maritime Academy.

THE BASICS:

- Date: 4/8/24

- Score: Maritime 20, Fitchburg 12.

- Records: Maritime (5-7, 2-3 MASCAC), Fitchburg (5-6, 0-2 MASCAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  Maritime would start things off with the first two goals of the contest. Abaigeal Doheny (Lunenburg, MA) would net the first goal for the Falcons, making it a 1-2 game. The Bucs would then go on a three-goal run to go up 5-1. The Falcons would answer back with a four-goal run of their own, closing out the first and starting the second, tying the game at five all. Maritime would take control of the remainder of the second Behind Sarah Naar and her three goals, giving the visiting team a 9-6 lead going into the half.

 The second half was all Maritime, as they poured it on in the third quarter, racking up nine goals to Fitchburg's three. Naar found the back of the net four times in the third alone. The fourth was a low-scoring affair, with the Falcons netting three to the Buccaneers two.

- Mass Maritime was topped by Naar who finished with eight goals and one assist. Lindsy Durgin and Allie Dickinson both finished with four goals. Durgin also added two assists with Dickinson getting one. Cassie Llewellyn rounded out the multiple goal scorers for the team with three.

The Falcons were paced by Nicole Orlowski (Ellington, MA), who finished the contest with four goals. Alexis Raymond (Tewksbury, MA) and Delaney Ponder (E. Bridgewater, MA) each had two goals and one assist.   

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Madison Selby (W, 5-7) made 8 saves on 20 shots faced.

Elizabeth Smith (Plymouth, MA) (L, 1-1) made 8 saves on 23 shots faced.

-  Shots: Maritime 43, Fitchburg 26
