WESTFIELD, MA: Fitchburg State women's lacrosse fell to MASCAC opponent Westfield State this evening.  

THE BASICS:

- Date: 4/19/24

- Score: Westfield 21, Fitchburg 6

- Records: Westfield (10-6, 5-0 MASCAC), Fitchburg (6-9, 0-4 MASCAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  After an 8-0 first quarter from the Owls, the Falcons put together their best quarter of the game, scoring four. Noelle Kennedy (Walpole, MA) highlighted the second with two for the four goals scored. Alexis Raymond (Tewksbury, MA) and Samantha Azzari (Haverhill, MA) were credited with the other two goals.

- Westfield continued to build on its lead after a 12-4 first half. They put up seven in the third quarter to the Falcons zero. Megan Bailey had two in the quarter for the Owls. The fourth quarter was split between the two teams, scoring two each. In the closing quarter, Autumn Tibbetts (Lunenburg, MA) netted both for Fitchburg.

- Caitlin Persson (Worcester, MA) (L, 5-7) made nine saves in the loss on 30 shots faced. Kara Banagan (W, 4-4) got the win for Westfield after making one save on five shots faced.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Natalie DeMaio finished with a game-high 4 goals.

-  Bailey had 3 goals, 3 assists, and 6 draw controls.

-  Kennedy and Tibbetts both had 2 goals.

Fitchburg State women's lacrosse will be back on Tuesday when they travel to Salem State at 7:00 PM to continue MASCAC play.
