Women's Outdoor Track Excels At Silfen Invitational
Hepler places second in the javelin with DIII NE qualifying throw of 34.50 meters
New London, CT. – The Fitchburg State University Women's Outdoor Track & Field team returned to action this weekend as they competed at the 2025 Silfen Invitational, hosted by Connecticut College at the Silfen Field & Track.

How It Happened
Freshman Sophia Hepler (Orono, ME) led the way for the Falcons, placing second in the javelin with a DIII New England qualifying toss of 34.50 meters, while finishing 17th in the hammer throw, 13th in the discus and 14th in the shot put with tosses of 29.92 meters, 26.83 meters and 8.29 meters, while junior Trishannah Scott (Leominster, MA) was also solid for the Green and Gold third overall in the long with a mark of 4.77 meters and 29th in the 200 meter with a time of 28.52 seconds.
In the 400 meter, junior Aria DiCato (Fitchburg, MA) (1:09.63) and sophomore Christina Apolon (Brooklyn, NY) (1:17.69) finished 32nd and 39th overall, while in the 100 meter, newcomer Arieyana Robinson (Worcester, MA) posted a 28th place time of 14.13 seconds
In the 800 meter, DiCato finished 13th overall with a time of 2:48.11, while Apolon added a 57th place time of 32.26 seconds in the 200 meter.
In the field, sophomore Taylor Crout (Boise, ID) (11th), junior Cassandra Israelson (Saugus, MA) (16th)) and sophomore Joey Schmidt-Gross (Sudbury, MA) (30th) registered tosses of 31.90M, 30.08M and 19.23M in the hammer throw, while in the discus, Crout (30.82M), graduate student Sophia Salamone (Falmouth, ME) (27.92M) and Israelson (23.88M) finished fourth, tenth, 13th and 17th respectively.
In the shot put, Crout placed eighth overall with tosses of 9.49 meters, while Salamone added a 20th place throw of 20.89 meters in the javelin.
Rounding out the top Falcon efforts on the day was junior Alanis Velez (Lowell, MA), who placed 13th overall in the long jump with a mark of 4.14 meters.
