Women's Soccer Picked Fourth in MASCAC Preseason Poll
FITCHBURG, MA: The Fitchburg State women's soccer team was voted into the fourth spot in this year's Preseason Poll by the coaches around the MASCAC. Westfield State found its way into the top spot after taking down Bridgewater in the MASCAC Tournament final last year.
The Owls landed in first with six of eight possible first place votes. The team was 6-1 in MASCAC play last season. Back for the Owls is Delaney Parker, who, during the 2023 season, returned to her award-winning ways after being named the MASCAC Player and Rookie of the Year in 2021, registering a league-leading 18 goals, 10 assists, and 46 points.
In the second spot is Bridgewater State, with the final three first place votes. Reigning MASCAC Regular Season Champs, the Bears were 7-0 in 2023. In goal, Logan Levesque went 10-5-1 with six solo shutouts and 1.10 goals against average, turned aside 84 shots, and recorded a .832 save percentage.
Worcester State comes in third. The Lancers were 5-2 during the 2023 conference slate. All-Conference honoree Erin Condon returns after she concluded her sophomore season with six goals and seven assists for 19 points. She recorded two game winners with a .706 shot on goal percentage.
Sitting in fourth is Fitchburg State. The Falcons collected two wins during MASCAC play last season. In her first season with the team, Noelle Kennedy had five goals and an assist for 11 points, including one game-winner on the year.
Salem State is next in fifth. The Vikings had three wins in conference action in 2023. Brenna Paquette grabbed All-Conference honors last season after netting five goals and two assists for 12 points, going 2-for-2 on penalty kicks and draining a game-winning goal.
Coming in sixth is Framingham State. Returning for the Rams is All-Conference defender Victoria Potter, who helped the team’s defense hold their opponents to a .118 shooting percentage.
Finishing out the 2024 women’s soccer poll in seventh and eighth are Massachusetts Maritime and MCLA, respectively. For the Buccaneers, Taylor Blanton earned her second All-Conference award after helping the team keep the opposition at a .113 shooting percentage. Returning for the Trailblazers is Anna Lewis, who drained five goals and three assists for 13 points, including one game-winner.
