Sat Nov 5, 2022

Fitchburg, Mass. – For the first time in program history, the third-seeded Fitchburg State University women's soccer team will travel to top-seeded Westfield State University for the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Championship on Sunday at noon.

The Falcons finished the 2022 conference campaign with a 5-1-1 record, while the Owls went undefeated (6-0) as MASCAC regular season champions.

The Green and Gold advanced to the conference final after upsetting second-seeded Bridgewater State 2-1. Junior Maddie Hippert (Leicester, Mass.) paced the Falcons with a goal and an assist, while goaltender Allison Gough (Wolcott, Conn.) back-boned the defense making nine saves.

The Owls punched their ticket to the finals with a 2-0 win over fourth-seeded Worcester State. Delaney Parker (Orange, Mass.) and Kiki McNary (Brattleboro, Vt.) each scored for the Owls.

The two teams met in late October at Westfield State. The Owls prevailed 4-1, with a pair of goals from Jennifer Rennich (Bedford, Mass.). Junior Elizabeth Read (Fitchburg, Mass.) has the lone goal for the Falcons.

The winner of tomorrow's game will receive the league's automatic qualifying bid into the NCAA Tournament.
