Gough stops ten shots for the Green and Gold

Westfield, Mass. – The third seeded Fitchburg State Women's Soccer team dropped a tough 1-0 decision to the top seeded Owls of Westfield State in the 2022 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Soccer Championship game this afternoon at Alumni Field.

How It Happened

Westfield State opened the scoring at the 3:01 mark when graduate student Jenn Rennich (Bedford, Mass.) collected a feed from senior Marissa Jacob (Holden, Mass.) and deposited a shot inside the far post for her 23rd tally on the season for the 1-0 edge.

Fitchburg State nearly knotted the score with just over a minute remaining in the half as freshman Regina Pallotta (Sterling, Mass.) blasted a shot from 30 yards out that sailed just over the crosse bar.

Following the intermission, Westfield State put a fury of shots on frame, but Falcons keeper Allison Gough (Wolcott, Conn.) stood tall denying all four scoring opportunities to keep the score at 1-0.

The Falcons best scoring chance of the second half occurred in the 79th minute of play with senior Taylor Rodriguez (Lunenburg, Mass.) settled a loose ball in front of the net, but her shot drifted wide right as the Owls held on for the 1-0 final.
