Women's Soccer Holds Off Vikings in Conference Opener
FITCHBURG, MA: Fitchburg State women's soccer was victorious this evening after taking down the Vikings of Salem State in MASCAC action.
THE BASICS:

- Records: Fitchburg (1-6, 1-0 MASCAC), Salem (1-5, 0-1 MASCAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Falcons would break the scoreless contest in the 41st minute on a penalty kick goal by Joanie Butler (Woburn, MA). Her shot beat the Viking keeper low and to the right, giving her and the Falcons their first goal of the season.
- The second half was filled with the Vikings working the ball down into the Falcons territory and making keeper Madison Dawkins (Haverhill, MA) work to keep the lead. Dawkins was up to the task as she found herself one-on-one with Savannah Scrodin on a PK in the 87th minute. If the kick went in, the game would be tied, and there would be limited time left. Scrodin tried to go to Dawkins's left, but she would layout and make the save. Scrodin would then have a chance at a follow-up, but Dawkins was up and made another incredible save, keeping it at 1-0.
- Dawkins gets the win in net for the Falcons, putting her at 1-6 on the year. In this one, she saved all seven shots she faced. Ava Guyer would get the loss, falling to 1-5 on the year. Besides the one goal, she had a solid game, making five saves.
