Softball Drops Pair To Lancers In Conference Action
Fitchburg, MA. – The Fitchburg State University Softball team was swept by the Lancers of Worcester State this afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action from the Donna Lee Withington Memorial Softball Field as the Falcons dropped the opener 11-2 before falling 9-0 in the nightcap.

How It Happened
Game One
Worcester State opened the scoring in the top of the first as senior Emma Lanpher (Charlton, MA) walked, moved to second and third on base hit from junior Emma Lapoint (Westfield, MA) and a fielders' choice before scoring on a sacrifice fly from senior Abigail Koziiol (Lunenburg, MA) for the 1-0 edge.
Fitchburg State knotted the score at 1-1 in their half of the first frame when freshman Emily Bennett (Gorham, ME) tripled to center field and crossed the plate on an RBI single to center field by classmate Priscilla Dillon (Glennville, GA).
The Lancers regained the advantage in the top of the second with Lanpher laced a two-run double to left that scored sophomore Cali Brouillard (Millbury, MA) and junior Camden Heenan (Webster, MA), while Lapoint drove in Lanpher with a single to left field for the 4-1 margin.
The visitors pushed the lead to 7-1 in the top of third as Lanpher singled up the middle to plate Brouillard and Lapoint added an RBI double to left center that scored Lanpher. Worcester State extended the margin to 9-1 in the top of the fifth with Brouillard connecting a two-run inside the park home run.
The Falcons trimmed the deficit to 9-2 in the bottom of the fifth when Dillon ripped a double to center field and crossed the plate on an RBI double to left center off the bat of sophomore Jessica Mueller (Fitchburg, MA).The Lancers secured the victory in the top of the sixth as Brouillard registered a two-run single to center field, resulting in the 11-2 final.

Worcester State grabbed a 2-0 edge in the top of the third as Lanpher doubled to right field and crossed the plate on an RBI single to center from Lapoint before Lapoint eventually scored on an RBI ground out by junior Bella Gasbarro (Leominster, MA).
The Lancers upped the lead in the top of the fourth, loading the bases on hits from junior Carisa Andrews (Medford, MA) and senior Jordan Geloso (Rutland, MA) as well as a throwing miscue, while Andrews scored on walk from Lanpher to make the score 3-0.
The visitors extended the advantage to 4-0 in the top of the fifth with Gasbarro reaching on a fielding miscue and coming around to score following a single from junior Amanda Adamuska (Dudley, MA) and a fielding miscue.
Worcester State secured the victory in the top of the sixth as Brouillard registered an inside the park home run, while Gasbarro added a two-run double to left field, resulting in the 9-0 final.

- Sophomore Danielle Forth (Templeton, MA) paced the Falcons, hitting 1-for-2
- Junior Madison Solt (Salem, NH) took the loss for Fitchburg State, yielding nine runs (6 earned) on 14 hits in the complete game effort
