Softball Collects Split On Day One

Melbourne, FL. – The Fitchburg State University softball team earned a split on day action of the 2025 Space Coast Spring Games today as the Falcons collected a 10-7 victory over the Gorloks of Webster College in the opener before dropping a 10-4 decision to the Warriors of Wisconsin Lutheran University in the night cap.

How It Happened

Game One

Fitchburg State opened the scoring in the top of the first as freshman Paige Konopka (Middlefield, CT) reached on fielding miscue, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly to centerfield off the bat of sophomore Jessica Mueller (Fitchburg, MA) for the 1-0 edge.

The Falcons upped the advantage to 3-0 in the following frame when junior Adria McKenzie (Lowell, MA) singled, advanced to second on a wild pitch, moved third on single by newcomer Lauren Ahearn (Danvers, MA) before freshman Carolyn Brodeur (Ashby, MA) laced a two-run triple to left field, plating McKenzie and Ahearn.

The Green and Gold pushed the margin to 4-0 in the top of the third with Mueller singling to third base and crossing the plate on an RBI double off the bat of freshman Priscilla Dillon (Glennville, GA). Webster cut the deficit to 4-1 in their half of the third as senior Aven Ragwar-Hayes (Seneca, SC) doubled to centerfield and scored on an RBI double to left center by Emma Bovaconti (Ballwin, MO).

Fitchburg State extended the lead to 801 in the top of the fourth, scoring four runs on four hits with sophomore Danielle Forth (Templeton, MA) lacing an RBI single up the middle the drove in McKenzie before Dillon ripped a three-run home run to left field, scoring Mueller and Forth.

Trailing 8-2 in the bottom of the fifth, the Gorloks scored five runs on four hits as senior Cheyenne Dickens (Bonne Terre, MO) laced a bases clearing triple to left center before junior Abigail Chandler (Jeffersonville, IN) followed with run a scoring groundout to make the score 8-7.

Fitchburg State secured the victory in the top half of sixth when Brodeu walked, moved to second om a single by Forth and crossed the plate on an RBI double off the bat of Mueller before Forth scored as senior Isabella Sousa (Charlton, MA) drew a bases loaded walk, resulting in the 10-7 final.

Game Two

Wisconsin Lutheran opened the scoring in the top of first as sophomore Madison Heller (South Milwaukee, WI) single and senior Gwen Malecke (Gilbert, IL) walked before sophomore Alea Anhalt (Ford du Lac, WI) tripled to right center to plate Heller and Malecke, while newcomer Kylie Gaston (Albertville, MN) singled up the middle to drive in Anhalt to make the score 3-0.

Fitchburg State answered in the bottom of the second with Sousa doubling to right center and crossing the plate on an RBI single through the right side from McKenzie before Brodeur doubled to center field to bring in McKenzie. Ahearn followed with a two run single through the right side, scoring Broduer and Konopka for the 4-3 edge.

The Warriors regained the advantage in the top of the fourth with senior Allison Powers (Sun Prairie, WI) connecting on an RBI double to left center before sophomore Julianna Alloy (Harrison Township, MI) registered a two run double down the right field line for the 8-4 edge.

Wisconsin Lutheran secured the victory in the top of sixth when Malecke reached on a fielding miscue and came around to cross the plate on an RBI double off the bat of Gaston, resulting in the 10-4 final
