Softball Picked Fifth In Pre-Season Poll
Falcons notch 23 points in 2023 MASCAC Softball Coaches Poll
FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Fitchburg State softball team was recently picked fifth overall in the 2023 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Softball Pre-Season Coaches Poll after amassing 23 points as announced by the league office on Friday afternoon.
The Bears of Bridgewater, the Worcester State Lancers and the Rams of Framingham State finishing in a three tie for first place in the 2023 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Softball championship in a vote of the league's coaches.
The Bears and Lancers each notched a total of three first place ballots, while the Rams of Framingham State tallies the remaining two first place ballots, en-route to their 42 points each. Westfield State followed in fourth with 33 points, while the Falcons of Fitchburg State were slotted to finish fifth with 23 total points.
Salem State was next in sixth with 21 points, while the Trailblazers of MCLA landed in seventh with 12 points. Rounding out the 2023 MASCAC Softball Pre-Season poll was Mass. Maritime with a total of nine points.
The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, the nation's oldest Division III men's and women's playing conference, has a rich and storied tradition of competitive success while celebrating excellence in the classroom. MASCAC member schools include Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University. Two other institutions, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University, are affiliate members of the conference in the sports of football and men's ice hockey, while Western Connecticut State University joined the conference as an affiliate member in the sport of football for the 2013-14 academic year.
The Fitchburg State Softball team opens their 2023 slate on Tuesday, March 7th as they take on the Wildcats of Penn College and the Red Hawks of Montclair State on day one action of the 2023 Fast Pitch Dreams Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C. at 11:00AM and 1:00PM.
