Softball Drops Pair To Colonels In Non-Conference Twin Bill
Grass leads Falcons with three hits and a double
Fitchburg, MA: The Fitchburg Softball team dropped a pair of non-conference contests to the Colonels of Curry College this afternoon from the Donna Lee Withington Memorial Softball Field as the Falcons fell 3-0 in the opener before dropping a 1-0 decision in the nightcap.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Game One
- Curry opened the scoring in the top of the first as senior Madelyn White (Franklin, MA) singled to right field, scoring newcomer Renee Gonneville (Saco, ME) before freshman Morgan Barmash (Woburn, MA) plated junior Jillian Rogers (East Freetown, MA) with a sacrifice fly to centerfield for the 2-0 edge.
- The Colonels secured the victory in the top of the fifth with White singling through the left side, driving Rogers, resulting in the 3-0 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Senior Molly Grass (Rockland, MA) led the way for the Falcons, going 1-of-3 with a double
- Junior Julia Gauvin (Granby, MA) and senior Dana Cisowski (Torrington, CT) added one hit each for the Green and Gold
- Junior Mackenzie Leveille (Brooklyn, CT) took the loss for Fitchburg State, allowing two runs on four hits with two K's and three walks over four innings pitched
- For the Colonels, White finished 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI
- Rogers chipped in with one hit, including a triple and two runs scored
- Rogers picked up the victory for Curry, giving up just three hits and striking out 14 with one walk in the complete game effort
HOW IT HAPPENED: Game Two
- Curry grabbed a 1-0 advantage in the top of the first when freshman Mary Rodrigues (Milford, CT) tripling to right center before White laced a single through the left side, scoring Rodrigues. Fitchburg State threatened in the bottom of the second frame as senior Lauren Kirkconnell (Dayville, CT) drew a walk, moved to second on single off the bat of sophomore Adria McKenzie (Lowell, MA) before junior Ella Marshall (Gloucester, MA) dropped down a sacrifice bunt to put runners on second and third, but Barmash retired the next batter to work out of the jam.
- The Falcons nearly knotted the score in the bottom of the fourth as junior Isabella Sousa (Charlton, MA) singled to right center and moved to second on a fielding miscue, while McKenzie followed with a walk before Barmash worked out the frame unscathed as the Colonels held on for the 1-0, game two victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- This afternoon's contest marked the 34th meeting between the two teams on softball field with the Falcons 11-23 all-time when taking on the Colonels
- Grass paced the Green and Gold, hitting 2-for-4
- Freshman Jessica Mueller (Fitchburg, MA) added a double for the Falcons
