Women's Volleyball Takes Down AMCATS

PAXTON, MA: Fitchburg State women's volleyball team collected its first win this evening after taking down the AMCATS of Anna Maria College in non-conference action.

THE BASICS:

- Score: Fitchburg 3, Anna Maria 1. Sets 25-22, 20-25, 25-22, 31-29

- Records: Fitchburg (1-11), Anna Maria (1-17)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  The Falcons emerged with the victory after falling in the second set. Sariah Dyer (Raynham, MA) made sure that they would take the following two sets to clinch it. She finished with a match-high 14 kills to go along with two blocks. Mia Vestal (Wilmington, MA) and Madison Keohane (Wakefield, MA) helped supply her with plenty of sets. Vestal had a team-high 12 assists, while Keohane was just two shy of that mark with ten. Defensively, Jessica Greco (Southington, CT) held down the back row with a team-high 25 digs.

- The AMCATS did outhit the Falcons 48-35 but did commit more errors, supplying the slim margin of points between the two teams. Bri Franklin and Jana Hunt paced Anna Maria's offense with 27 kills combined. Franklin topped the team with 14, with Hunt finishing with 13 kills. Gia Hall played a key role in their success hitting. She dished out 29 assists to go with ten kills and nine digs. Annie Taylor did everything she could to prevent Fitchburg from scoring as she racked up 52 digs.
