Volleyball Drops a Pair to Conn College and WPI

WORCESTER, MA: Fitchburg State women's volleyball fell to both Conn College and WPI today in non-conference action.

THE BASICS:

- Score: Conn College 3, Fitchburg 0. Sets 12-25, 11-25, 19-25.

            WPI 3, Fitchburg 0. Sets 8-25, 15-25, 20-25.

- Records: Conn College (14-6), WPI (6-15), Fitchburg (3-16)

HOW IT HAPPENED: Game One

-  The Camels swept all three sets due to an impressive offensive showing. Conn racked up 40 kills in this one, finishing every set with double digits. Their biggest hitter, Katherine Randall, topped all today with 11 kills. Josie Kelly was a big reason why as she dished out 18 assists. Sienna McCormack added another 16 assists to the Camels final stats. Defensively, Caroline Festersen had a match-high 13 digs.

-  The Falcons were paced by Sariah Dyer (Raynham, MA), who has been a top performer for the Falcons in recent games. She finished with a team-high six kills and two blocks. Mia Vestal (Wilmington, MA) topped the setters for Fitchburg with seven to go with her three digs. Hannah Azzari (Haverhill, MA) was the top defensive performer in this one, as she finished with a team-high six digs.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Kills: Conn College 40, Fitchburg 18

-  Assists: Conn College 37, Fitchburg 15

-  Digs: Conn College 43, Fitchburg 32

HOW IT HAPPENED: Game Two

-  WPI also had a great offensive day, racking up 47 kills with just 11 errors for a kill percentage of .350. Lily Eldridge topped all in this one with 11 kills. She was also the primary setter, racking up 26 assists. Victoria Escuer held down the back row for the Engineers, and she, too, finished with a match-high in digs with 22.

- For Fitchburg, Stephanie Sardella (Billerica, MA) was almost a one-person show, finishing with team-highs in kills and digs. Her final kill count was eight to go along with 17 digs. This time, it was Madison Keohane (Wakefield, MA) who topped the Falcons setters with 11 assists.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Kills: WPI 47, Fitchburg 27

-  Assists: WPI 44, Fitchburg 24

-  Digs: WPI 59, Fitchburg 44
